Bronson Park Illuminated and Quiet for the Holidays

Kalamazooans like us find ourselves in unique and challenging times as we begin 2021. With our new web site, we look forward to soon posting a blend of posts about entertainment, history, arts, breweries, live music, dining, symphony concerts, theatre, art fairs and festivals—all from the perspective of downtowners who celebrate and love this small city, that usually has big city happenings. But for now, we’re focused on more immediate pressures.

For everything there is a season, and in this one our town is hurting like any town in the country. Our immediate obligation is to lay low, stop the spread, and protect our homeowners and fellow citizens. Our hearts are with so many: our front-line workers, health care workers, musicians, hoteliers, restauranteurs and others both hurting and helping. Kalamazoo has suffered so many great blows in the past—from the Spanish flu of 1918, through the 1980 tornado, through two tragic losses of life in the new century. The one thing we know for sure, is that this too shall pass; we will love and care for those who are hurting and mourning, and together we will regain our ability to sing, dance together, take flight, tip a Two-hearted, and smell the amazing flowers in Bronson Park. Together. Together, as a community—where the rubber hits the road on a daily basis, we are Kalamazoo Strong.
